Gulls
Biology: They are typically medium to large birds, usually grey or white, often with black markings on the head or wings. They typically have harsh wailing or squawking
calls. They have stout, longish bills, and webbed feet. They feed from fish, marine invertebrates, carrion, commercial /domestic refuse and will fly great
distances to landfills, farmland and sewage outlets. They nest in colonies using the same site year after year. Gulls can become aggressive attacking humans
and pets. Coastal gulls attack people for food. Their fouling can smell unpleasant, appear unsightly and deter customers.
Control: Seagulls can be deterred from roosting and nesting by the fitting of deterrent systems - nets, spikes, bird wire, hawking or avishock system but that will
only remove the problem from that small area. If it is necessary to remove the birds then this can be achieved by culling by means of removal of nests,
replacement of eggs or egg oiling.
