Level 2 Award in Pest Management

Whether you are already working in pest control or looking to enter the field, this qualification will equip you to carry out your professional duties as safely, efficiently and humanely as possible.

The Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) and the British Pest Control Association (BPCA) worked in close partnership to design the Level 2 Award in Pest Management. It is the qualification which provides pest control technicians with a single, clear career qualification path.

Approved by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) and meeting the legal requirements relating to the training of pest control technicians set out in the Control of Pesticides Regulations 1986, the Level 2 Award in Pest Management provides technicians with the essential knowledge required by professional pest controllers.

The course typically involves 72 hours of study and covers:

• Identifying animal, bird, and insect pests and their biology and life cycles
• Why they need to be controlled
• Features of sewer, drain and building design associated with infestations
• Methods of pest control
• Monitoring the effectiveness of treatments
• Importance of health and safety to employers and employees
• Application of relevant legislation to pest control
• Communicating effectively with clients

Candidates sit a two and a half hour examination made up of 45 questions requiring short answers. Successful candidates will be graded ‘Pass’ or ‘Distinction’ and certificates carry endorsement from RSPH and BPCA.
