What can rats gnaw?

Rodents are well known for gnawing on almost anything. They have very strong teeth, with a much harder enamel than on human teeth, which allows them to chew through materials such as wood, plastic and electrical cables. Due to a gap in their teeth, called a diastema, they can spit any chewed material out and therefore don’t eat it.

As pest control technicians we are all very aware of the damage that rats can cause, but recently even WE were surprised at the extent of the destruction. We were called to a property in West Row where the owner reported having an issue with rats. When our technician attended, he found that the rat had managed to chew a hole in a PVC window. So not only did they have a rat infestation, but they now needed to replace the window as well!
