What can I do about bats?

Unfortunately, this is a question that we sometimes get from customers that call us. The short answer to this question is that you cannot do very much with bats if they are present in your house as all bat species in the UK are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. This means it is illegal to:

  • Disturb a bat in their roost
  • Damage or destroy a bat roost (even if there are no bats present)
  • Obstruct access to a bat roost
  • Capture, injure or kill a bat
  • Possess, advertise, sell or exchange a bat or part of a bat dead or alive.

Since bats are protected and are not classified as pests, we are unable to help with any problems with bats. Our role as pest controllers is to advise customers on the presence of bats and the best course of action. In some cases, we are also unable to treat other pests (such as cluster flies) in loft spaces as this can cause harm to the bats present.

If you would like more information regarding bats, we would recommend contacting the Bat Conservation Trust.

Combining an extensive knowledge of pests and a commitment to safe procedures, Pest Solution offers Pest Management that you can trust.
